OWWWWWWWW

I fell down.

It was real stupid, and now I have a grade 3 separation of my acromioclavicular joint to show for it, complete with a deformed lump on my shoulder that will be there for the rest of my life. *sigh* There goes my modeling career.

As for training, this sort of puts a damper on my motivation to get things started before my birthday. I can't ride a bike at all for a few weeks, and running probably wouldn't feel too great. Obviously swimming is a no go. Soooooo...yeah. I've done my fair share of moping and feeling sorry for myself. Now it's time to focus on recovery. All will be well!

Week 1: Laying the foundation (35 weeks till race day)

This past week, I decided to finally get off my butt. Originally, I was thinking I'd wait until after my birthday in February to start regularly training, but all the gravy-laden, chocolate-filled, fat-cracklin' deliciousness of the holidays is starting to weigh me down. Plus, I've been feeling a little bummed that all the fitness I had built up this past summer from the Door County Tri has totally gone down the pooper since I had to take a long break from running (plantar fasciitis--ouch!). Excuses no more! I can still bike and I can still swim, so here I go.

For the next few weeks, I'm just going to try to get into a regular routine of early morning (ughhh) swims and sessions on my bike trainer (basically it just turns my bike into a stationary bike I can ride indoors. Boring, but effective).

This is the Beginning

Well, here we are folks. Four months ago, I signed up for the Ironman 2015 triathlon to take place on September 13th, 2015 in Madison, Wisconsin. I created this blog for anyone who wanted to be on "Team Laura". "Your level of participation on this team is completely up to you, and really is just a way for you to follow along with my progress and support and encourage me in your own sweet special way--even from your couch (or the toilet--no one will ever know!). In truth, a big reason I wanted to make this blog was to motivate me to get off my butt and train well, knowing there were people out there holding me accountable. I will do my best to update on a fairly regular basis if you do your best to leave supportive comments on a fairly regular basis (or call me, write me a letter, or stop by my place for ice cream and protein shakes). We can come up with all sorts of ways to interact with each other, but by far the MOST important way would be for you to mark down Sunday, September 13th, 2015 on your calendar and start making plans to be in Madison to cheer me on in person! If you've never been to an Ironman race, I can assure you it will be an experience you will never forget. In a good way, I mean.
